Arqueologías de destrucción 1958-2014 is based on the complicity that exists between violence and tenderness, the interest and rejection, the destruction and the homage to “destructiveness” or the “art of the destruction of Latin American artists”, with a particular emphasis on Mexico and Argentina. The catalogue is comprised of a text by the curator Jennifer Burris Staton and two complementary essays by the sound artist Justin Hoffmann as well as specialist in Latin America Mara Polgovsky Ezcurra that deepen the distinct threads weaving together this exposition. The work of the six exhibiting artists, Rafael Montañez Ortiz, Kenneth Kemble, Marta Minujín, Ana Mendieta, Marcos Kurtycz and Eduardo Abaroa, intend to destroy the being through their radical position that consists of an almost euphoric interest in the actions leading to ashes and rubble, a literal and total burning of the past.
